Just
a few kilometres from Siena, the Castle of Capraia stands
majestically on a hill overlooking a bend of the Merse river.
This imposing fortress, built in the Romanic style, catches the
eye of all those travelling along the road witch leads from
Siena to the Maremma, and boasts a long, glorious past.
The Castle first appears in writing in the year 730, noted as
the Castle of Montecapraio or Montecapraia.
The
property in the centuries passed from the Ardengheschi family to
the Incontri, to the Tolomei nobles, to the Petroni and finally
to Giomba Guidaccio Giunti, that on 1554 was decapitated by the
Imperialist in the last decisive siege against the Guelfans. |
|
 |
The
Castle of Capraia in this year played a very important role
of furnishing provisions to Siena.
The fortress was liberated by the French, but, with the |

cessation
of the Republic of Siena, it was left abandoned. It is a said
that the gost of Giomba Guidaccio Giunti is still present in the
Castle and that every year on the same day, at the same hour, in
the courtyard of the fortes of Capraia, as by magic, a small
stain of his blood appears. The Castle, recommended for a
relaxation holiday, for everyone that loves nature and history,
has doubles-rooms, a suite and a dependence, all with antique
furniture, in respect of the original architecture, with wood
beams, old terracotta floors, and fireplaces.
Riccardo and Maria Rosaria with their staff will be pleased to
give you an unforgettable stay in the magnificent Capraia’s
Castle.

Situated on a hill to the right of the
Tennacola, Sarnano is one of the few towns in the Marche whose historic centre remains
untouched. The town planning is characteristic of the “castrum” - a walled city with small winding streets that Iead up to the “Piazza Alta” and then descend to the base of the
hill. |
|
 |
 |
| The town, which slopes from the top of the hill, with its concentric spiralling streets has preserved the characteristics of the fortified castle of which original parts of the walls and gates remain preserved. The warm colours of the small houses and of the churches are the dominant element that gives unity to all the buildings. In this way, the historic centre, together with its monuments of exceptional importance, generates an overall sense of harmony. But the warmth arises also from the individual buildings. Re it for the fascinating history of each, or for the fact that they are immersed in a tranquil atmosphere, untouched by tourism. The thermal centre and surrounding winter holiday resorts with their various ski slopes and many ski lifts are renowned. Other than the possibility of walks and excursions in the nearby mountains and in the Sibillini Park, the agreeable climate and excellent tourist facilities, both sporting and recreational, also render the area a pleasant summer resort. |

The
unspoilt nature and extraordinary tranquillity of the Sibillini
mountains are the qualities, which Sarnano has preserved: endless
pastures, the bracing mountain air, the incredible variety of
flora and fauna found only in the Apennines. Creating an itinerary
to discover the most hidden places of the area, full of charm and
of the legends of Guerin Meschino and the Sibilla, is extremely
simple and is a means of connecting with a pure world (thought to
be lost). Inaccessible peaks, reddish rock faces, wonderful
valleys, age old oak and beech foresta are perfect for interesting
trips amongst transparent waters and fresh mountain streams.
Stadiums, tennis courts, swimming pools, bowling alleys, minigolf,
shooting grounds, fishing lakes, riding school, sports centres,
well equipped gymnasiums and the prestigious “Sibillini”
school of para gliding, complete the range of facilities which
Sarnano offers, suitable for the modem needs and new demands of
tourism. |
