Observation
of the predictable and main actions on the human body of
Fontepatri water when drunk leads lo a positive assessment of
the water, which is defined as “pleasant and very well
tolerated”, since test carried on fasting subjects required to
drink a litre of water in twenty minutes, “did not cause
sickness, regurgitation, a sense of epigastric discomfort or any
other disturbance.”
The digestive action of Fontepatri water administered during
meals was expressed as an increase in gastric secretion, which
“mainly involved the secretion of acid”.
This led to easier digestion, more rapid gastric emptying and a
slight increase in appetite reported by patients undergoing
mineral water cure.
The stimulation of acid secretion is particularly therapeutic in
dyspeptic subjects with a picture of hypo secretive dyspepsia,
who reported a greater or lesser improvement in their subjective
disturbances following 15 days’ treatment.
The diuretic action of the water under study was tested in a
group of eight healthy fasting subjects by administering 600 ml
of water over twenty minutes.
The volume of urine produced was ‘~s1ight1y higher” than the
volume produced after drinking an identical volume of spring
water.
The diuretic action manifested itself as both liquid and solid
dieresis (elimination of uric acid and urea). The urine
increment in the latter two products of metabolism - uric acid
and urea - eliminates these compounds from the blood.
A greater decrease in blood uric acid after 12 days of treatment
with Fontepatri water was achieved in subjects with a higher
initial level of uric acid in the blood.
These tests show that Fontepatri water is indicated for hypo
hydrochloric dyspepsia, hyperuricaemia, infections of the
urinary tract and uric nephrolithiasis.
The
main properties of Sorgente Fontepatri water can be summarised
as follows: “may have a diuretic effect and stimulate
digestion”. |
